Title
Macaw Pair with Grapes
Artist
James McCormack
Medium
Painting - Gouache On Paper
Description
A pair of red-shouldered macaws (Diopsittaca nobilis) appeared on my windowsill today. A colony of them live across the road and they fly out at around 6am hunting for food, usually landing on top of the building where I live. They do the same thing between 4 and 5pm.
Today they came down to investigate my open window, looked in (I got some photos, from which I did this painting) they moved on, flew past a couple more times. I got some banana and tangerines today to tempt them tomorrow morning, as grapes are not their favourite.
They are small macaws, up to a foot long, mate for life, and are becoming more common in the city , especially green areas..

Wonderful! So interesting to be able to interact with such colourful wildlife 😸
James McCormack replied:
Thanks Katherine, the usually fly/ pose above me so I see them against the light. First time I saw them properly to see they are small macaws(big head/beak) and not parakeets.

James, this is an amazing painting. I also loved your back story.
James McCormack replied:
Thank you, enjoyed doing it, Kathy, hopefully more stories to come with these two!
