Praça Cel Fernando Prestes, Bom Retiro, São Paulo. Painting - gouache and chinese ink on brown paper..This square houses historic buildings such as the Historical Archive of São Paulo and the Military Police Barracks - with its Japanese garden and koi pond - and is an entrance to one of the most multicultural neighborhoods of the city: Bom Retiro. This region is home to many immigrants from South Korea in São Paulo, the neighborhood presents a unique blend of different groups of immigrants. Initially housing Greeks and Italians, it became the main Jewish stronghold of the city until the middle of the 20th century. From the 1960s, a large Korean immigration transformed the neighborhood, which became a clothing manufacture and clothing store centre. Bom Retiro currently also attracts a growing Bolivian community. As this painting was being executed, it was accompanied by a Bolivian dance group practising in front of the Municipal Historical Archive.

I grew up in Brazil, so any time I find art depicting that country, I'm interested. What a beautiful image of the praça, surrounded by trees and buildings, with a hint of the cobblestone pattern on the sidewalk. I love it!
James McCormack replied:
Thanks Lori, you know exactly where I'm coming from. The original piece is about three feet in width to fit in a wide view.

Thank you Jayson, I had a great time doing it - alla prima, plein air It actually takes in 180 degrees rather than just what was in front of me. that is why I chose a panoramic view.
